Sediment settles on the floor, and bacteria don\u2019t float around on the surface \u2014 they stick to the walls as a slimy biofilm and keep multiplying for months before anyone sees or smells a problem. A single cleaning isn\u2019t permanent either: the moisture and organic matter left in any tank let bacteria start building that layer again. An overhead tank in a typical 6\u20138 flat building (RCC or PVC, up to 2,000 litres) usually takes 40 minutes to an hour to clean. Underground tanks and sumps take a little longer \u2014 usually 1 to 1.5 hours \u2014 because more sediment collects at the bottom and there are often more chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_a_proper_clean_actually_involves\"><\/span>What a proper clean actually involves<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scrubbing with a brush and draining the water is not enough.
