Rust-coloured water, weak pressure or a metallic smell at the tap isn't random — it's the visible sign of a GI pipe corroding from the inside, where the zinc coating that once protected the steel has worn through and the exposed metal starts rusting and shedding scale into the water. That scale narrows the pipe's usable diameter and cuts flow long before any single tap looks blocked. SRS clears it with a dedicated hydrochloric-acid flush that dissolves the build-up along the entire line, restoring full flow to every connected tap.
Hydrochloric acid moving through a live pipeline can damage the internal components of connected appliances, so every water-based appliance in the home — geysers, water purifiers, washing machines, dishwashers — is switched off and isolated before the process starts.
The pipeline is fully drained before any chemical goes in — acid diluted by standing water works far less effectively on the rust and scale coating the pipe walls, so de-watering first is what makes the next step actually work.
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is injected into the pipeline from the overhead tank. HCl reacts directly with iron oxide (rust) and mineral scale, breaking the bond between the deposit and the pipe wall — which is why it's introduced from the highest point in the system, so gravity carries it through every connected tap.
The acid is left inside the pipe for around 30 minutes — long enough for the reaction with rust and mineral deposits to actually dissolve them, not just loosen the surface layer.
The chemical is safely drained out through the taps, then clean water is run continuously from the tank for about 15 minutes — enough to physically carry the dissolved rust and mineral residue out of the system rather than leaving it to resettle further down the line.
Once iron particles and any odour have been flushed out and confirmed gone, previously disconnected appliances are reconnected — checking for this first protects the appliances themselves from any residual particulate.
Loosened scale that was clinging to the pipe wall can sometimes lodge in a tap's aerator or valve on its way out, which is why every tap is checked individually — any jammed tap is cleared immediately using air pressure to restore free water flow.
